Sto Mexico Plant Nears Completion Ahead of Fall Production Launch
Last year, Sto Corp. broke ground on a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility just outside Monterrey, Mexico, marking a strategic expansion to support its growing customer base in the region. Built on a 108,000 sq. ft. lot, the plant has easy access and features Sto’s own exterior finishes alongside eco-friendly elements, like a rainwater collection system. With production slated to be completed by the end of 2025, offices are now fully equipped and operational machinery has been installed. The facility has also created new roles across both managerial and operations functions, further demonstrating Sto’s commitment to regional investment and sustainability.
Once production is underway, the facility will serve customers throughout Mexico. An official inauguration day for the facility is expected to be announced soon, marking the final milestone in a key project for Sto’s continued growth in the region.

Dan Olson
FBM | Grand Rapids, Michigan
With more than 30 years of experience, Dan Olson is a veteran in every sense of the word. A longtime expert in coatings and a U.S. Army veteran, Dan’s journey into tinting began when he was hired as a tint helper—and shortly thereafter became the go-to tinter. Three decades later, he’s still behind the color station, bringing expertise, precision, and a deep understanding of the customer’s needs to every match.
More Than a Tinter
In Dan’s words, “A tinter wears many hats.” His role spans across warehouse management, inventory control, inside sales, and direct customer communication. That means he’s not just matching colors—he’s making sure materials are available, orders are accurate, and projects stay on schedule. “You get a lot of intel about what’s needed for a project,” Dan says. “The tinter is critical to keeping things moving.”
Then vs. Now
When Dan started, the world of color was a bit simpler. “There were 44 colors available, and everyone was happy,” he recalls. Today, that number has grown into the thousands—many of them are dark hues that require more colorant and impact tinting costs. With the increased variety, consistency has become more important than ever.
Tech + Skill = Accuracy
For Dan, reliable results start with a deep understanding of tinting and mixing equipment. “Calibration is critical,” he explains. “Knowing when parts are starting to fail can affect the consistency of color from pail to pail.” His decades of experience help him stay ahead of issues before they arise.
Trust Earned Over Time
What’s most rewarding? For Dan, it’s the trust he’s built. “My customers rely on me. Being a trusted resource means everything,” he says. That trust is hard-earned, built on years of doing things right and being there when it counts.
Beyond the Bucket
Outside of work, Dan enjoys the outdoors and is an avid hunter in western Michigan. He also has a deep knowledge of the distribution side of the business, having worked through its evolution from Sto-Ex to Home Acres and then to FBM in 2013. His favorite finish? French Vanilla—a timeless choice that reflects his appreciation for the classics.
Advice to the Next Generation
“Be ready to multitask,” Dan advises. “And be able to connect with your customers. That relationship is everything.”

Proven in the Field
Our standout project at 1246 Central Ave illustrates how Sto solutions solve real-world demands—by bringing together performance, design, and constructability.

Description: Facade restoration using Sto reStore™ level 2 with Stolit® finish
Construction Type: Commercial Restoration
Completed: 2024
Project Overview
Located directly across from the Tampa Bay Rays ballpark, 1246 Central Ave called for a cost-effective restoration solution that preserved the building’s architectural character while navigating the constraints of a tight urban site.
The Challenge
Frequent game-day activity and limited laydown space required a solution that minimized disruption. Traditional recladding was not feasible due to budget and site constraints, but the client still needed long-term performance with a refreshed aesthetic.
Sto’s Solution
Using Sto reStore™ level 2—featuring StoRFP, mesh, and a Stolit® finish—delivered exceptional crack resistance and efflorescence control while matching the texture of nearby new construction. Thanks to Sto’s early involvement, the project team—led by general contractor Kellogg & Kimsey, envelope consultant Paramount Consulting and Engineering, and applicator Florida Stucco—developed a tailored specification that avoided a full reclad and stayed on budget.
The Result
With minimal disruption and maximum impact, the updated facade makes a strong visual impression. The restoration not only preserved the streetscape but also positioned the building for long-term durability—a clear example of how smart planning and the right partners can deliver standout results in complex urban settings.
