EIFS parapet caps were a popular method of providing clean lines in a facade design. As a result of the exposure to weather and physical damage, additional maintenance is required. The procedure illustrated here shows how to maintain and repair the damage as well as providing a method for recoating and finishing. There will still be a requirement for increased maintenance. A more durable replacement alternative is shown in Sto reStore Detail 74.61.
EIFS are sometimes wrapped over parapets. Depending in the degree of exposure to impact damage or severe weather, a higher level of maintenance may be required to keep them weathertight and clean. This repair method shows removal and replacement with a more durable cap flashing that will direct water away from the wall surface.
Procedure illustrates repairs to sign track set into an EIFS cladding with inadequate protection against water penetration through or around the perimeter of the sign. Gypsum based sheathing is installed behind the signage.
