1. What kind of power is needed to run the StoSilo?
480V, 3 Phase electricity is required. Power may be supplied by a generator or job site source, if available.
2. Are there any other special electrical needs for the StoSilo?
Yes, the electrical connections are European design and parts. A qualified Sto Technical representative should be consulted when wiring the StoSilo to either a generator or job site source.
3. Can I spray finish with the StoSilo?
No. Actually the pump and delivery system is capable of pumping and spraying finish, but this particular piece of equipment is not designed or intended to spray finish.
4. Does Sto have a machine for spaying finish?
In Europe, Sto does have equipment that is used for spraying finish. Sto will bring this equipment to the US as our StoMachine Technology program grows. Sto is currently conducting pilot projects to begin this program. The schedule for full launch of this program will depend on our experience with the pilot projects.
5. Can I spray other cementitious materials (OCS or repair mortars) with the StoSilo?
No, the StoSilo has special operating requirements which could prevent certain products from being used. For this reason each product must be evaluated individually before its use in the StoSilo will be accepted by Sto. Our Sto BTS Silo material has been specially formulated for use in the StoSilo. The StoSilo cannot be used for products such as OCS, which require separate addition of sand or admixtures. Products made by manufacturers other than Sto should never be used in the StoSilo.
6. What type of support will Sto provide at the job site?
For a contractor's first StoSilo project, Sto will provide a qualified technical representative full-time for up to one week. The Sto representative will assist with machine start-up, spraying instruction, and troubleshooting until Sto is satisfied that the crew is comfortable with routine operations.
7. What type of maintenance is required?
Certain parts will wear with usage and require replacement. These parts include stator tubes, rotor shafts, and the mixing tube bushing. These parts are stocked by the distributor as part of Sto’s recommended spare parts list, and should be available from the distributor on short notice.
8. How will Sto support me at times when a representative is not on site?
A toll-free helpline (888-522-0184) has been established to assist with operational problems with the StoSilo. The helpline is available weekdays from 8AM to 5PM, Eastern. If you need to leave a message on the helpline, your call will be returned within one hour (during the hours listed above). If needed, you will receive technical advice from a Sto Machine Application Specialist within 2 hours.
9. What if the StoSilo needs repairs?
Continue working using traditional methods (Sto BTS Silo material can be mixed with drill & paddle). A StoMachine Technology Application Specialist will help you diagnose the problem, and arrange for shipment of parts, if needed. Parts weighing less than 150 pounds will be shipped overnight for AM delivery. Parts that weigh more than 150 pounds will be shipped by the fastest means available (typically not longer than 3 business days for delivery).
10. Who will actually do the repairs?
Fuse replacement and exchange of the 10 major components of the StoSilo can easily be performed by a contractor or distributor's representative. Components that are not functioning properly are returned to Sto for repair. The on-site personnel will not be required to diagnose or repair problems within the electrical components, other than resetting a breaker or changing a fuse. If needed, a StoMachine Technology Application Specialist will be dispatched to the job site to repair the equipment.
11. How will I know when wearable parts need replacement?
As a rotor-stator pump becomes excessively worn, it will lose pumping efficiency. In the short term, all the applicator needs to do is increase the pump speed and order the parts. A testing gage is available to check pump condition. Excessive leakage of material at the mixing tube bushing indicates that it needs to be replaced. Neglect of a worn mixing tube bushing will result in abnormal wear of the mixing auger.
12. What mechanical support is offered for the generators?
Sto has selected Lister-Petter generators. Lister-Petter has over 800 licensed service locations in North America. If you experience problems with a generator, call the StoSilo helpline and we will help identify a local service person. If problems with a generator are likely to result in extended downtime, the local Sto distributor should contact Sto for further assistance.
