Sto is the innovative world leader in cladding, coating and restoration systems. As the originator and world’s largest manufacturer of Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (StoTherm EIFS™), Sto has been at the forefront in the development of cladding materials, producing more than 800 products worldwide for new construction and restoration projects.
History:
Sto traces its history back more than 160 years to a small cement and lime operation established in 1835 in Weizen, Germany. In 1955, Sto AG pioneered and introduced the first quality synthetic resin wall coatings in Europe. Sto introduced Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (StoTherm EIFS™) to the European market in 1963 and in 1979, began producing the world’s leading StoTherm EIFS in North America.

Today:
Sto markets an exceptionally wide range of traditional hardcoat stucco, cement board stucco, exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS), and architectural coatings. Sto also offers a spray-on air & moisture barrier for substrate protection and a variety of concrete restoration products, providing builders and owners a single source for a complete line of materials for the restoration, protection and enhancement of buildings. For interior applications, the company also produces abrasion resistant coatings for high traffic public spaces, such as airports and schools, as well as a wide variety of textured and smooth coatings to bring added richness to rooms.

Product Innovations:
Sto’s latest product innovation is StoCoat Lotusan, an architectural coating with pronounced self-cleaning properties. The StoCoat Lotusan exterior coating possesses a highly water repellant surface similar to that of a lotus leaf. On the lotus plant, dirt particles don't stick on the surface, and simply flow off with the rain droplets that fall on the plant. On a building coated with StoCoat Lotusan, dirt simply runs off with the water that falls on the facade. The facade remains dry and attractive.
Another recent innovation is our StoGuard spray-on building wrap. StoGuard provides a seamless air and moisture barrier beneath exterior wall claddings including EIFS, stucco, brick, fiber-cement board, vinyl and wood siding.
It protects plywood, gypsum sheathing, Dens-Glass® Gold, or cement board sheathing before, during and after construction. A structural, continuous air and moisture barrier, StoGuard outperforms fabric building wraps and can save up to 40% in energy costs, according to a 2005 NIST report.

Machine Technology
StoMachine Technology recently introduced the Sto All Purpose Stucco Pump to its line of application equipment, designed to give Sto customers a competitive edge by shortening the length of time on jobs and reducing labor costs. The versatile, easy to use pump can spray most Sto products, from stucco, to basecoat to finishes, making it the only pump you need on the job. Other SMT application equipment includes the unique StoSilo Combo, which provides storage, mixing and pumping all in one self-contained unit. The system is totally automated and can be remote controlled at the point of delivery. The Sto Power Rasping System increases productivity up to three times compared to manual rasps and provides active environmental protection by taking foam particles out of the air.

Technical and Color Expertise
Sto works closely with building professionals from design through construction to ensure building and homeowner satisfaction. From consultative design and color services provided by a multidisciplinary international team of specialists at Sto Studio to a suite of electronic tools to aid architects and specifiers, Sto is committed to supporting its customers. In fact, according to a study conducted by Walls & Ceilings magazine, applicators that most predominantly use Sto products cite technical service support as the second most important reason they use Sto products – the number one reason is high quality products.

Training
To ensure that the architectural vision is executed properly, the Sto Institute instructs architects, builders, contractors, applicators and distributors about the proper techniques of cladding application and how to correctly integrate wall systems with other building components such as flashings, windows, roofs and deck attachments. Sto Corp. is an Allied Member of the American Institute of Architects, providing learning units to design professionals. More than 500 building professionals have been trained annually since Sto Institute’s formal inception in 1998.

Continuing in its role as the industry leader, Sto recently introduced the first-of-its-kind building envelope program for building restoration. The reStore Program provides building owners and facility managers the best in products and services in one complete package. From design to construction to life cycle maintenance, reStore delivers a long-term, worry-free exterior solution.
